A lot of the information I used to plan my visit came from a great article in Victoria Magazine, September/October 2008 Volume Two, Number Five: "Canadian Charms A Tale of Two Cities." Accept where we stayed listed below:

We stayed in the absolute best B&B in Montreal called The Heritage Victorien, Un séjour historique au Cœur du Quartier Latin (located in the Latin Quarter) not far from Old Montreal. It is owned by Denis Beaulac. The Heritage has wonderfully grand spaces made up of two 18th and 19th century town homes that are connected by a secret passage way. All the rooms featured Victorian furniture with contemporary paintings -- very refreshing. Denis makes sure your first introduction includes finding that doorway. He serves homemade jams, fresh breads and squeezed OJ daily. The Heritage is located in very eclectic community, reminded me of Brooklyn's Atlantic Ave. However, site seeing wise, I much preferred Quebec, that's why, with the exception of our room "The Carolyn Monk Suite" the rest of my shots are of Quebec.

Quebec also features one of the largest Flea Markets in North America. MARCHE JEAN-TALON CHARLESBOURG FLEA MARKET is opened 365 days a year. Both Montreal and Quebec have lots of places to shop for antiques / and vintage stuff. Just Google your trip before you go. And, remember if you are driving, to bring two pieces of photo ID, such as a passport and drivers license. You will be turned away without them.

Other interesting stops included Ile d'Orleans in the middle of the St. Lawrence River (see article in Victoria). I also enjoyed visiting a funky little thrift shop in Saratoga Springs, New York on the way up to Canada. Stay tuned for my Thrift Shop trip tick for more info about that.

FINAL NOTE: I found the On Star System in my car hard to use, because of the lag time in trying to understand words in an unfamiliar language (French) while driving, etc.. I think a GPS system would probably work best for trying to get around while in Canada by car.

We traveled to Quebec for my birthday October 2008, and happened to be in there the day a carriage driver of 26 years was being laid to rest. So well loved, it seems the entire town of locals turned up to honor his memory. At first glance, we thought it was a parade.
