"I grew up watching my Grandmother recycle – everything! Nothing in our house was ever wasted. I think that left a big impression on me, because it is important that my work contain elements of repurposed or recycled materials. I am particularly drawn to rescuing old lace and linens. Of paying homage to the countless artists like my mother and grandmother, who created hand work anonymously.... Fabric is about history and memory... The DNA of all the souls who have touched it.... To combine that history with my contemporary paper works connects with my spirit and feels right.
...I find the internal persona much more
interesting than the one that is showing on the facade...
Getting at the root, finding the history or meaning of things
always inspires me and my work..." |
