Stationery

I started work as an illustrator in my hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana. Eventually, I relocated to Los Angeles and developed an interest in mixed media art while working as a muralist for about twenty years. Finally, (I think), settling in New Jersey, I started making paper in 2000 and reoriented my studio (Tea & Wings) to house both papermaking and painting spaces. Papermaking has become a place of spiritual solace for me, and a natural evolution to all the processes I have experienced.

Presently I am focused on the integration of painting and papermaking a single medium. My work interprets life narratives and I use vintage textiles, disintegrating lace and recycled materials as part of the process of creating texture and layers to tell stories and to create one of a kind stationery products.

Rescuing old lace and linens is also my way of paying homage to the countless craftsmen  like my mother and grandmother. Skilled artist in their own rights, they lovingly created their handwork anonymously to pass on to future generations. It is my pleasure to link these unique mediums with the very ancient art of papermaking."
