ABOUT CARDELL

To the outstanding achievement and loving memory of our curator Cardell Oliphant September 9, 1957 - October 26, 2001

Cardell curated seven of the ten Art in the Atrium, Inc. annual exhibitions at the Morris County Administration and Records Building's Atrium Gallery. At the time of his passing he was starting his own gallery, "The 0 Group" which featured decorative fine art.

Cardell was raised in Linden, New Jersey and graduated from Linden High School in 1975. He graduated from Hampton Institute in 1980 where he earned a degree of Bachelors of Science in Chemistry. After attending Hampton he moved to Texas. In Texas Cardell worked at the Gerhard Wurzer Galleries, Inc. in Houston and with Grace Designs and the Pace Collection in Dallas. He also helped to revitalize the African American Museum of Bishop College in Dallas.

After relocating back to New Jersey he worked as the Director of the Peter Joseph Gallery on Fifth Avenue in New York and at Art in Industries and the Orange Chicken. Cardell was an active member of the National Hampton Alumni Association and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He will be missed.
